It seems strange to use the royal we, but I certainly didn't feel alone as I gave a presentation about Placeblogger and placebloggers at Pecha Kucha Boston last Thursday.
Pecha Kucha is an international movement of creative people who gather to give very short talks about their latest works in a unique format: twenty slides that advance automatically every twenty seconds, giving each speaker a total of six minutes and forty seconds to get their point across. There might be one in your city -- and you can check at PechaKucha.org.
A nightclub is probably an odd place to launch a grant-funded web/journalism experiment, but we specialize in odd places, and it was great to be part of a crowd that was so diverse in their interests -- art, architecture, music, and even Daft Punk made an appearance on the slides of the presenters. I felt a little too distracted to pay full attention to the speakers who preceded me, but a few really stood out to me, including the presentation by Chris Pullman on the story behind the amazing LED graphic wall that hangs out over the highway on the new studios of WGBH, and Denise Korn of Korn Design. And David of Limeduck blogged about it. (Hi, David!).
I wish I could say that my presentation went more smoothly, but when I got up, I found that my slides were shuffled into random order! It was a little unnerving, but I got a lot of support from the assembled crowd, and in retrospect, it was so much fun that random order slides may be something I want to do again. (For the record, I'm sure that this was my mistake, and not the organizers' -- if there's an opportunity for me to bet on my own capacity to do it backwards, I'm putting money on it).
I'll be sharing those slides and some narration here at Placeblogger later in the week, so keep your eyes peeled, and keep looking around at where you live, work, and travel, and get back to us if you find anything eye-opening.
