Montreal is a wonderful city, and it's also a wonderful placeblogging city.  One of the things that Tish and I have learned in developing Placeblogger is that not all great cities are great placeblogging cities.   One example that consistently puzzles me is that Southern California outpaces Northern California in both volume and verve when it comes to placeblogging.

Perhaps there has to be something slightly irritating about the place where one lives; some of the best placeblogs are written in gentle, teasing opposition to a place's defects, or in opposition to a sense of civic inferiority.  I'm not sure what moves the placebloggers of Montreal to put in the effort that they do, but the results are brilliant.

I did not eat at a single restaurant that I did not read about on their pages first, and I have to say, we ate fantastic food. I do wish we had sought out their advice before choosing a hotel, and that I had written this post soon enough to propose a light coffee among placebloggers, but...I was having too much fun. Next time!

Here are a few of the sites I paid particular attention to in the runup to my trip:

Montreal Metblogs From the mighty Metblogs franchise.

Vorg Montreal Blog

Evelyn's Montreal Blog
While written on the About.com site, Evelyn's guide was particularly useful in letting us know what was going on the weekend we were in town; in particular, we would never have known about the documentary film festival, which we were delighted to find out about as we are big fans of documentary film.

There are, in fact, many, many more Montreal blogs and bloggers, and I look forward to...hm. Extending my trip, in a sense, as I discover all of them and log them into Placeblogger so more people can find and enjoy them.
